You know how animals seem to always know if you’re sick or sad?

Well, I was really sick and my cat, Asher, knew.

It was June of 2021, I had just undergone brain surgery, and Asher wasn’t leaving my side for anything.

I have Epilepsy, and three years ago the medications that I had been taking to control my seizures stopped working.

They were becoming more frequent and more intense every day, and since I had already gone through a dozen or so different medications, as well as every alternative therapy I could get my hands on, now I was running out of options.

So I got hospitalized, underwent extensive tests and saw numerous specialists, and finally found out about a groundbreaking brain surgery to get a device implanted in my brain. The idea was that this device could possibly, over time, stop my seizures before they occurred.

Brain surgery seemed pretty scary but I was desperate, so I took a deep breath and went for it.

It took about a year, but it worked!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The road to recovery was long, and since my husband couldn't stay home with me all of the time, (he's a massage therapist and still had to go to work of course💪🏼), Asher had become my best friend and constant companion.

We developed a silent communication, a constant conversation that rendered words unnecessary.

Asher seemed to understand my pain, and made sure I was never alone.

When I was lying down and resting, he lay on or next to me.

If I got up, Asher followed me around from room to room.

No bathroom trip went unmonitored by my healer in residence. 😁🐈‍⬛

I wanted to work, but the cocktail of medications I was on to control the bulk of my seizures, (not to mention the seizures themselves), made me exhausted most of the time.

I didn't have enough energy to set up my paints and work in my studio, but I found that even when I was too tired to get out of bed, I was still able to draw and paint on my iPad with a stylus.

So I started drawing and painting Asher, since he was always with me (and he's so handsome).

Watching Asher one day it hit me - there's such a beautiful simplicity to his world because all he cares about is getting enough food, sleep, and making sure his humans are okay.

It reminded me of the animals we used to have when I was a kid, especially the cows from my family's small lodge in Vermont 🌄

My Mom cooked for all of the guests (family stye) every night, and we had farm animals out back - pigs, chickens, and a couple of cows. 🐄🐷🐓

I loved all of the animals, but there was something particularly calming and peaceful about the cows.

So I started painting them in an effort to connect with that sense of serenity and clarity they exude.

Just like Asher, their love was always unconditional, no judgment, no questions asked.

Their sweetly humble, carefree lives, embody for me the purest aspects of existence, inspiring me to capture them in a series of paintings I call "Farm Friends."

These pieces are a reminder of the peace and simple joys that come from connecting to the natural world.

So I have decided to give away a limited number of art prints of my new Farm Friends Collection for free right now!

In all honesty, giving away this collection for free just helps me get my art out there and into your hands and homes.

Plus, you'll know that you're supporting me, a real, live artist! 🤩
